1st August 2024 - We are very excited to tell you that we will be launching a new diabetes app called Digibete. This will replace the HealthZone UK app that we currently use over the next few weeks. It's free and has lots of features that HealthZone UK doesn't have! Click on the button here to find out more.
17th February 2026 - The ELSA study is screening children to find out if they are at risk of developing Type 1 diabetes in the future. Children aged 2 to 17 can now have their blood checked for antibodies that are often found in people with Type 1 diabetes. 3rd June 2026 - We are pleased to announce that, following extensive consultation, our service will be relocating to Blythswood House, Fulbar Lane, Renfrew, PA4 8NT, on 26 June 2026.
Our new location is just 2.6 miles from the Royal Hospital for Children. You can find it on the map here.
From Monday 29 June 2026, all appointments currently scheduled to take place at the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital (Yorkhill) will be relocated to Blythswood House, Renfrew. Clinics at Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH) will continue as normal.
Our clinical staff have been fully involved throughout this process, and we believe this move represents a very positive development for the service.
There will be ongoing refurbishment works at the new site; however, the move has been carefully planned to ensure continuity of service provision, and disruption will be kept to a minimum.
We envisage the new site becoming a Centre of Excellence for Children and Young People with Diabetes across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. We have Health Board approval to undertake a co-design process with Diabetes Scotland and the Glasgow Family Group to help shape the future development of the service.
This exciting move provides an opportunity to further enhance the care and support we provide to children, young people and their families, while creating a dedicated environment that meets the needs of our growing service.
We look forward to welcoming you to our new location and sharing further updates as the development progresses.
UPDATE 3rd June 2026 - Diabetes Scotland hosted a family engagement event yesterday evening, at which many families were in attendance. The report here provides an overview of what happened at the meeting.
